1. Delete everything from the app
IOU has no single "erase everything" button, because it has no account behind one. You delete what you want gone: open a transaction and delete it, or open a person and delete them along with their entries. Pending receipt scans and saved drafts are separate: open the pending receipts list and delete any you no longer want. Deleting a transaction does not necessarily remove a separate pending scan or every receipt record; removing the app clears its local store.
If you want a clean slate in one step, delete the app — that is the next section.
2. Removing the app
Deleting IOU from your iPhone or iPad removes its store on that device: people, entries, receipt images, pending scans and settings.
Choose Delete App; offloading keeps its documents and data. If you turned on iCloud Sync, deleting the app does not delete the cloud copy. In the Settings app, tap your name, then iCloud → Storage (or Manage Storage) and look for IOU and its data-deletion option. Labels and availability vary by OS version. Check your other synced devices before reinstalling, because retained data can sync back. IOU also uses a separate iCloud settings store for your "Me" link and scan counts, even when ledger sync is off; do not assume deleting the local app clears those values. Contact support if you need help finding the available controls.
Your device backups may still hold IOU data until those backups expire or you delete them in the same settings.
3. Ask us in writing
Write to support@ioumoneyapp.com with "Delete my data" as the subject. Because IOU has no accounts, we usually hold nothing that identifies you, so there is often nothing on our side to delete — we will tell you plainly if that is the case.
If you have written to us before, say which address you used so that we can find the correspondence.
4. What we can delete on our side
We can handle requests about support correspondence, its attachments, and service data under our control. We cannot directly erase your device or private iCloud database.
- We keep no ledger, no accounts and no copies of your receipt images.
- The abuse counters at our parsing service are tied to an IP address and expire by themselves within roughly 25 hours.
- Service logs may contain IP addresses and error information. We assess relevant records and deletion options with our providers; we do not promise that every record can be matched to a person or immediately removed.
- Receipt images are read by Anthropic under its own terms. We can pass a request on, but we cannot act inside another company's systems.
5. How long it takes
We acknowledge a request within two working days, and complete what we can as soon as possible after that — at the latest within 30 days. If the law where you live sets a shorter deadline, we follow that instead.
6. What we keep, and why
We may keep a record that you made a request, and the correspondence itself, for as long as we need it to show the request was handled properly. Apple keeps its own purchase and tax records for any subscription you bought; those records are Apple's, and a request to us does not reach them.
7. Export before you erase
Deletion cannot be undone. If you want a copy first, use Settings → Backup & Restore → Export Backup. It writes a single .iouappdata file holding your people, transactions, receipts, attachments and pending scans, which you can save or share wherever you like.
Import only works into an app with no data in it, so keep that file somewhere safe if you might want it back. Copies you export or send to someone else are independent: deleting IOU does not remove those files.
8. Subscriptions are separate
Deleting your data does not cancel an IOU Pro subscription, and neither does deleting the app. Cancel through your Apple Account — the Subscription Terms set out how.
